Still Moving Forward....

Shew!  It has been a crazy few weeks.  And clearly I have lapsed on my blogging skills and have been harassed for not updating, so here goes :)
After the last double weekend, I had a couple of good weeks of running.  This past weekend was another back to backer (but fortunately for me, it was a few less miles each day)!  I finally feel like I am back in my groove- which is nice.  Now, don't misunderstand me....it is still not always easy to get my booty out there, but overall, it has been a great 3 weeks.  I have had lots of great support from friends for various miles, and really, really appreciate everyone joining in on the fun.  Mark, Trish, Caroline and Holly have pushed me through some of those dark weekly miles....and Steph, Crystal, Jim, Bill, and KO have joined me on the trails for various weekend runs.
Last Saturday was take 2 of a longer run on the race course.  I did 2 loops of Turkey Creek, and practiced my nutrition plan.  Overall I think things went as well as expected.  I had a terrible headache when I woke up, and after talking myself into it, finally made it to the park.  My goal was to make it to the first water fountain and see how I felt (that first water fountain is only about 1.5 miles in).  See, little goals do help, because before I knew it I was heading into the sawtooth section of Turkey Creek.  No doubt my trail treasures helped me forget some of my pain.  I decided to start Lap 2 without thinking too much, as once you start the loop, there is no way out but to keep going :)  After the run, I came home and decided to forgo the ice bath....the thought of getting into a freezing tub of ice and water with my headache was one that I couldn't face....so instead, I recovered by jumping on the trampoline with Ella :)  Sunday was a shorter, flatter run.  The headache was still there, but eventually subsided and I got all the cold, wet miles in as planned!  Super glad I had some other crazies out there with me that day!
As race day gets closer, I am feeling much better about my nutrition and race day plan.  I have talked to tons of people recently and am taking in all the different ways people approach eating during a 100 miler...each person has their own style.  Hopefully, I have found one that will work for me better than last year!  I also have all the pacers and crew lined up :)  In 2 weeks, I am going to head out for a 50ish miles (4 loops of Turkey Creek) practice run....race crew and all! I didn't run this far last year during training, so I am excited and nervous all at the same time!  I even have some special ideas just in case my feet act up again this year!  It's gonna be exciting :)  Now, to keep training and moving forward just enough to get to the starting line ready to go....

This counts as recovery, right, Coach?

Only the crazies were out on Sunday in the cold, nasty rain!....KO (Lap 5 pacer) and Steph (first 50 mile pacer- he, he)

  1. Next week, we want to see your criss cross applesauce jump on the trampoline! Better get out your foam roller and full body compression sleeve after you do it, though. :)
