Week 8- Another Recovery Week!

Another bone chilling cold week of running!  Brrrr!  It was even 5 degrees one early morning when I ventured out with the girls - Tracey and Liza are troopers....although we were so bundled up I couldn't hear or see them!  I felt like the kid in "A Christmas Story" and thought it may be more beneficial to just roll around instead of trying to run.  It was a down week, so I enjoyed an extra day off (which meant more sleeping!).  The snow derailed the plan for hill repeats this week- so I did them on the treadmill.  This was definitely self-induced torture.  I even attached the safety key onto my shorts in case I went flying off the back (Kris' worst nightmare :)!).

I finally was able to complete some Christmas shopping (thank goodness)!  We enjoyed a Christmas party at the Moscato's on Friday evening (gracias!)- where I had to inform Rob that he would be carrying my water for Lap 8, in addition to carrying me!  He's up for the challenge.  Tracey and Liza signed on for Lap 7 (I thought I would need some entertainment at this point)....wonder if Liza can run carrying a boombox????

Steph, Teresa, and I did Turkey Creek Saturday morning...I still haven't yet wrapped my head around the fact that I have to do that course 8 times in 30 hours....I am going to think on a different level, so I don't scare myself.  Another good time running- skating over the ice and mud.  Sure is hard to run on those hills when you can't push off because of the ice!  Apparently I invited a group of bikers to take a bath????  They were taking up the entire trail (like 6 deep) and almost took us out in our single file line...so I nicely asked them if they would like to share the bath (supposed to be share the path, but it was so cold it came out all wrong)!  This made Steph laugh all the way up Cemetery Hill!  Her nickname was Suck It Out Steph (instead of suck it up)- let's just say the quote of the run was "Get your mucus under control now!"....seriously????  Still makes me laugh.  This was her attempt to warn Teresa about the hills to come.
I also enjoyed getting Coach Ian's advice on nutrition and race day strategy for the Frosty 50k!  He has a plan in place- so now I just have to execute!  Going to try out the nutrition plan next weekend for the 22 miler, and essentially the plan for the 50k is to run the "race" like a training run, and then speed up the last 5 to 6 miles....and suck it up! (of course he says this much nicer, but I like to put the plan into action words that can get me through the 31 miles).... Ah, and the promise of a recovery week after the race, of course!
